Weekly Review
Have you ever noticed how after the initial wonder of new growth in the Spring wears off, things seem to get out of control pretty quickly in a garden or yard? Plants are trying to grow, busting at the seams, and old patterns are exploding. It becomes necessary to quickly intercede to monitor growth, to weed out, to cut away old or superfluous manifestations, to open channels of photosynthesis and circulation of moisture, up more to sunlight and rain. A good garden with healthy plants requires constant vigilance.
This week’s advisement is “Pruning to Grow.” And this is a double motion that seems contradictory at first. But generally, we understand the idea that nature cultivated vs unattended can produce enhanced results. By cutting and trimming and pruning, we are facilitating better, more focused and disciplined growth as well as room to breathe and for a healthy inhalation and exhalation process. Often it is not easy to develop this aspect of ourselves but just as it is necessary for the gardener or farmer to achieve in order to have a successful bloom, so the analogy can be applied to business growth, daily work ethics, and personal priorities. The bonsai tree is a perfect model of the “pruning to grow” principle - exquisitely neat, well-organized, with all potential efficiently trimmed for the widest diffusion of multi-faceted growth across the plant organism.
This week at Community DAO we continue to see more intensive growth, and enhanced development. And we are pruning to grow! We keep receiving 1-3 new members every couple of days in our Discord with just as many requests to join our writing team. Our active RVN address database is up to 160.
The research writing project under the leadership of editor, Dr. Alina Okun, has become a type of gateway banner for attracting new members, especially in the University of Uyo area. We continue to receive approximately 70 reports every week, though our publication has been prudently “pruned” in order that it can continue to grow robustly and with meritorious selection parameters, based on a variety of criteria.
In addition to the reports, we continue to receive over 600 designs submitted to the weekly contests, according to Evilra’s latest spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RWTjR8ZFHxZCm4CIpxzoE2CidXrafG-fNetoh-r9U-g/edit#gid=2122615032
We are experiencing positive growth at Community DAO and continue to make headway in new directions, attracting more curators, and more active content contributors, week after week. The County Fair idea continues to engender new assistants and opportunities to develop more diffuse nodes of activity. More designers are branching out now minting their own NFTs with their own Commtokens.
We did not hit the top rank this week over at RVN Dashboard, but we still finished a pretty close 2nd!
Finally, I would just say that more of my personal time is spent communicating with countless individuals in this organization, day after day. And sometimes it is hard to see the forest from the trees. However, I know what growth feels like and this is fast becoming a busy business! I speak with new people, continue building on older working relationships and remain available to troubleshoot wherever an issue may arise, every single day. As always, we are seeking more assistance, more interest in our organizational projects, more investment in our governance token and NFT offerings. We are here to stay. We are growing. We want you to join us!
Let’s hear from the rest of the Community! Have a great week!
Best,
Dow

Art Gallery
I love art, especially sculptures and paintings. The fact that I don't know how they are created makes me appreciate them even more. Sometimes I wish I had drawing and painting talents, but then I'm still grateful I have other skills. I go to a lot of places and spots, but my favorite is the art gallery. It's located in the heart of the town, and I always find myself there every time. The beautiful sculptures and paintings take me back to history and give me a pictorial representation of what I was taught.
Seeing wonderful works of art makes me appreciate those that took the pains to create them. I really love going to the art gallery because it reminds me of my friend who was so talented in making sculptures and later had the scholarship to study abroad. Art means a lot to me, and I'm always wowed by how much detail each piece gives.
Each time I'm done eating nice meals in eateries and restaurants, I always end up in the gallery, such an amazing place with lots of talent to behold. Just as Pablo Picasso said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
My Love for Cassava
Cassava, also known as yuca or manioc, is a starchy root vegetable that has been a staple food for centuries in many parts of the world. As someone who grew up in a household where cassava was a common ingredient in our meals, I have developed a deep love for this versatile crop.
One of the things I love about cassava is its versatility. It can be boiled, fried, mashed, or even made into flour. I have enjoyed cassava in many different forms, from cassava chips to cassava cake. The possibilities are endless, and I am constantly discovering new and delicious ways to prepare it.
Cassava is also a very nutritious food. It is high in carbohydrates, which provide the body with energy, and it also contains fiber, vitamins, and minerals. As someone who tries to eat a balanced and healthy diet, I appreciate the fact that cassava is a nutritious food that can be incorporated into a variety of meals.
In addition to its nutritional value, cassava is also a very affordable food. In many parts of the world, it is a staple crop that is grown and consumed by millions of people. Because it is so widely available, it is often a very affordable ingredient that can be used to feed large families or communities.
Another reason why I love cassava is because of its cultural significance. In many cultures, cassava is an important part of traditional dishes and celebrations. For example, in my own culture, cassava is used to make a special dish called "pastel," which is a type of empanada that is typically eaten during the Christmas season. Knowing that cassava has played an important role in the culinary traditions of my ancestors makes me appreciate it even more.
My love for cassava runs deep. Its versatility, nutritional value, affordability, and cultural significance all contribute to my appreciation for this amazing crop. Whether it's boiled, fried, mashed, or made into flour, cassava will always have a special place in my heart and in my kitchen.
Nest of Champions
Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions) in Uyo, Nigeria, is a world-class sports venue and one of my favorite locations. This stadium, which is home to Akwa United FC, is a modern and well-equipped facility that has held many high-profile international events, including the African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers. It has a seating capacity of 30,000 people and is built to world standards.
The stadium has a distinctive architectural style that distinguishes it from other stadiums in Nigeria. It has an oval-shaped roof that covers the stands and shades the onlookers. The roof is made of translucent material, which enables natural light to filter through and creates a lovely atmosphere.
The natural grass field, which is well-kept and provides an excellent playing surface for football matches, is one of the stadium's highlights; I'm not sure why the NFF ffavorsMKO Abiola Stadium. Another story for another day!
It also has modern dressing rooms, VIP lounges, and other amenities that make it a comfortable and appealing place for players, officials, and onlookers.
The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium is not only an athletics facility, but it is also a landmark in Uyo. It is surrounded by stunning landscapes and scenic views, making it an ideal destination for visitors. It has become a popular destination for both tourists and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and snap photographs.
I will always admire this stadium!
Background knowledge of the Eyo Festival
Eyo describes the masquerades that come out during the festival. The festival is one of the places I like going to learn about Yoruba culture.
The festival is usually held when a new head of Iga or a new Oba is installed on the throne. It is also held in honor of an Oba who just died in Yoruba land.
But with a lot of modernity in government (gearing away from the monarchy), the governor can ask for the Eyo festival to be organized.
The Eyo festival involves the ceremonial dancing and chanting of Eyo masquerades in the city and around town.
In the early days, the major reason the Eyo festival was held was to honor the death of an Oba. Whenever any highly esteemed chief in Lagos kicks the bucket, it is the tradition of the Yoruba people to organize the Eyo festival, as it is said to escort the soul of a departed Lagos King or Chief and to usher in a new king.
It is a very unique kind of festival, unlike other Lagos festivals you might have heard of. One of the reasons why it is unique is that it is not organized or held annually or due to some seasons. It is an infrequent staging kind of festival.
The image above illustrates how the Eyo looks during the festival. People are robbed from top to bottom in white flowing cloth. Yes, white is the color. Also some special paintings you must have seen on the internet will give them different colors.
There are some Yoruba terms we must not exclude when describing the Eyo(masquerade) attire.
The ‘agbada’ and the ‘aropale’ are the two major costumes that each of the Eyo wears. They also have this ‘Akete’ (a hat) that bears the colors and shield of the Iga from which he comes from.
Now those who are hyping or supporting the Eyes are not to wear white robes. Each person carrying a robe as Eyo must pay a fee for the privilege to the Iga, the ruling house, whose colors and Akete the Eyo wears.
Hope we got to learn from this background knowledge of the Eyo festival.
Obudu Mountain Resort
When I went to Obudu Mountain Resort, I was stunned by how beautiful it was and how amazing the scenery was. Located in Cross River State, Nigeria, Obudu Mountain Resort is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, and it is not hard to see why.
My journey to Obudu Mountain Resort started with a long drive through winding roads and steep hills. As we ascended higher and higher into the mountains, the scenery around us became more and more breathtaking. The thick vegetation, rocky terrain, and rolling hills were unlike anything I had ever seen before.
Upon arriving at the resort, I was immediately struck by the sheer scale of the place. The resort is spread over 22 square kilometers of land, and it offers visitors a wide range of activities and amenities, including hiking, golfing, swimming, and more.

As we soared over the treetops, I could see the entire resort spread out beneath me, and the views were simply spectacular. The cable car ride is one of the most popular attractions at the resort, and it is not hard to see why.
Another highlight of my visit was hiking along the trails that wind through the mountains. The trails are well-maintained and offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Along the way, I encountered a wide variety of wildlife, including monkeys, birds, and even a few antelopes.
After a long day of hiking and exploring, I was ready to relax, and the resort's many amenities did not disappoint. The swimming pool was the perfect place to cool off, and the spa offered a wide range of treatments to help me unwind.
Overall, my visit to Obudu Mountain Resort was an unforgettable experience. My Visit to Afaha Nsit Market
My visit to our local market in my village, though it's a small mini market, is where traders bring their goods to sell to earn a living.
In Afaha nsit market, they have a particular day in a week when they have new goods coming in, and sales are much cheaper that day.
The local market in my village is a fascinating place where people from all walks of life come together to buy, sell, and trade goods. It's a hub of commerce, culture, and community where vendors and shoppers alike can find everything they need. The market is a dynamic and diverse space, with stalls and booths selling fresh produce, handmade crafts, clothing, electronics, and more.

One of the most exciting things about the Afaha nsit local market is the atmosphere. BNK in Ikot Abasi
For most of history, man has had to fight nature to survive. In this century, he is beginning to realize that, in order to survive, he must protect it and make use of it in the right way.
My visit to Baptist Nature Kitchen known as BNK in Ikot Abasi Local Government has been a remarkable one. First, when the decision was made I was like why do we need to go to a local and interior place like that?
I kept wondering what it would be like, but when we arrived, I came to appreciate that everything about nature is beautiful and perfect.
Baptist Nature Kitchen is not a government spot but owned by an indigene of Ikot Abasi, in Akwa Ibom State.
It is surrounded by water. BNK made use of this wonderful nature by raising all kinds of edible animals, fishes, prawns, snails and a lot more to make amazing delicacies for the customers.
Baptist Nature kitchen boasts a rich culinary tradition with a variety of local foods that offer several health benefits. For instance, the widely consumed cassava provides a rich source of carbohydrates and dietary fiber. It also contains vitamins B and C, as well as minerals such as calcium and potassium.
Additionally, yams are rich in vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, making them beneficial for digestion and immune system support. Consuming a varied diet of these local foods can help promote good health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Through its setting, Baptist Nature Kitchen has been able to capture the minds of the people of Akwa Ibom State and its neighboring State. The place is now used as a tourist attraction center for people coming into the state for the first time.
There's nothing as unique as having a vision and being able to actualize it appropriately.
BMK does not just bring people to nature but captivate the people's mind with their food. Different local and international dishes were served since the visit, including people from other countries.
It was a great visit with a lot to learn.
Oguta Lake
Oguta Lake is one of the most beautiful destinations in Nigeria. The lake, which is located in Oguta town, Imo State, covers an area of about 8.5 square kilometers and is surrounded by lush green vegetation, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and recreation.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Oguta Lake. The drive to Oguta was quite long, but it was worth it. I was surrounded by beautiful scenery, and the fresh air was invigorating. When I arrived at the lake, I was immediately struck by its beauty. The crystal clear water shimmered under the sun, and the greenery around the lake was breathtaking.
In Oguta Lake, two angry rivers flow side-by-side without ever coming together.
You can see it almost immediately on the surface of the lake.
One flows in a shade of green, the other is brown. According to the locals, the two rivers were male and female, man and wife. The green water is Ogbuide, believed to be the female. The brown water is the male, Urashi. The stories claim that they had a quarrel, since then, they have flown separately. Nowadays, the two are deities; man and wife have become god and goddess.
There are also other myths and mysteries of this river. It is believed that "mermaids" are said to inhabit the lake. According to locals, the mermaids are beautiful creatures that live deep within the lake and only come out at night. They are said to be friendly towards humans and have been known to help fishermen with their catch.
After the boat ride, I decided to take a stroll around the lake. There were many different spots to sit and relax, and I found a shady spot under a tree. From there, I could see the entire water, and the view was spectacular. I spent a few hours there, reading a book and taking in the scenery.
As the day went on, I decided to try some of the local delicacies. I had heard that Oguta town was famous for its fish, and I was not disappointed. I tried some freshly caught fish, which was seasoned to perfection and grilled over an open fire. It was one of the best meals I have ever had.
My trip to Oguta lake was an incredible experience. The natural beauty of the water and its surroundings is truly something to behold. I would recommend Oguta lake to anyone looking for a peaceful and beautiful getaway.
Hiking in Shere Hills
My first experience as a hiker in Shere Hills, Jos, was an exciting and challenging adventure. As an avid nature lover, I was eager to explore the hills and see what they had to offer. I had heard that Shere Hills had some of the most beautiful hiking trails in Nigeria. I was a bit afraid, but I was ready to put my hiking skills to the test.
The Shere Hills are an important part of the history of Jos. The hills have been home to various ethnic groups over the centuries, including the Berom people, who are the indigenous people of Jos. The hills were also used as a refuge by the Berom people during the colonial era, when they were forced to flee from their homes due to conflicts with the British authorities.
As I arrived at the hills, I decided to start my exploration by hiking along one of the trails that run through the hills. The trail was well-maintained, and there were signs along the way that provided information about the history and geography of the area. As I hiked, I could see the stunning panoramic view of the surrounding area. The hills seemed to stretch out for miles, and the view was truly breathtaking.
I came across the Assop Falls, which is located at the foot of the hills. The waterfall was a stunning sight, and the sound of the rushing water was soothing to the ears; also, the Jos Wildlife Park, which is located at the foot of the hills. The park was home to various species of animals, and I was excited to see them up close. I took a guided tour of the park, and I was amazed by the beauty and majesty of the animals. I saw lions, elephants, giraffes, and many other animals. It was truly an incredible experience to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
As I continued my hike, I came across several unique rock formations. The last leg of the hike was the most challenging, as it was a steep climb up to the top of the hills. But the reward at the end was worth it. At the top of the hill, I was rewarded with a panoramic view of the surrounding area that was truly breathtaking. The view from the top was worth all the effort and hard work.
Port Harcourt Zoo
Growing up, I always had a personal connection to animals. In our family house, we had two dogs and later, a cat, but mysteriously I had never been able to visit any zoo and see the wonderful animals in nature.
My favorite television channel has always been Nat Geo WILD, where I spent time watching wildlife living their beautiful life, their struggle for survival, and trying to avoid extinction.
The Port Hacourt Zoo (also known as PH Zoo) is a state owned zoological park where family, students, private individuals, tourists and animal-lovers frequent to watch animals in their natural habitat. PH Zoo is located at Okujumu Ama Road, Port Harcourt. Since moving to the southern city, I have never been able to go to any nearby natural habitats. But this week was a little different. I had to look for a new place to gain new experiences.
When my friend reached out to me to let me know that he would be heading to Ama junction, I asked him to drop me off at the zoo since he owned a car. He agreed. I was excited and ready to hit the zoo.
An hour later, we arrived and I had to pay a gate fee. What I saw was beyond my expectations. There were many varieties of animal wildlife. It’s also a very beautiful place to connect with nature.
My favorite animal "the monkey" was so happy when I offered him some bananas.
My Experience At The Lagos Lagoon
The Lagos Lagoon is a stunning sight, and I have wonderful memories of exploring the bar beach on Victoria Island, which is now Eko Atlantic, years ago. This, however, is the Lagos Lagoon encounter I want to remember from recent years. Every day on the way to work at Victoria Island Lagos, I have been able to see the Lagoon from the third mainland crossing inside the bus. However, I have never had a first-hand encounter on the same level as this one.
Because I was running late for work, I chose to take the boat as a shortcut rather than circle the block in heavy traffic. I boarded a boat to Victoria Island, and for the first time ever, I was genuinely terrified the entire 40 minutes on the ocean. I nearly passed out from shock when the boat suddenly stopped in the middle of the water as we got closer to Victoria Island's shores. I began praying despite my fear, and the elderly woman seated next to me cried out in Yoruba, "Jesu ran mi lowo," which translates to "Jesus help me." Surprisingly, the other passengers on board showed no signs of concern; instead, they were occupied criticising the boat driver for using an outdated vessel. Thank God, the boat's engine started up again, and we were on the ground in no time. Although it was a very frightening event, God is to be praised for keeping everyone safe.
In addition to serving as a source of freshwater for the area, the lagoon is home to a broad range of aquatic animals, including fish, crabs, and shrimp. Visitors come to the lagoon to take in its scenic splendour and to engage in activities like fishing, boating, and kayaking. It is a significant tourist destination. This lagoon, known as the Lagos Lagoon, is a famous piece of water in Lagos, Nigeria. A major natural resource, the lagoon has been crucial to the growth of Lagos and the surrounding areas.
University of Uyo's Campus Life: A Special Cultural Experience
University of Uyo is a prestigious institution that attracts students from all over Nigeria and beyond. As one of the top-ranked universities in the country, it offers a wealth of academic opportunities, as well as a vibrant campus culture that is unlike anything else.
The university's cultural diversity is reflected in its wide range of student organizations and clubs, which cover everything from music and dance to literature and sports. These groups provide students with a chance to explore their interests and connect with like-minded individuals, while also learning about the rich and varied cultures of Nigeria and beyond.
At the University of Uyo, I had the chance to participate in a variety of social events, such as cultural festivals, talent shows, and sporting competitions, which allowed me to unwind, have a good time, and meet new people. I greatly appreciate that I took part in the majority of the university of Uyo's events, especially the cultural event where I was required to dress in Annang ethnic clothing, sing their songs, and dance their distinctive dance. This was particularly meaningful to me because I always admire their tradition.
The symphonic band, one of the best orchestras in the nation, played in the music chamber on other days, and I occasionally sat in the music garden to witness African opera. Agbokim Waterfall
Our class excursion to Agbokin waterfall was a thrilling and unforgettable experience. As we made our way along the winding path toward the waterfall, I felt a sense of excitement and anticipation building within me.
When we finally reached the waterfall, I was awestruck by its beauty. The water cascaded down the rocks in a shimmering veil, filling the air with the sound of rushing water.
I eagerly followed our guide as he led us closer to the waterfall. As we approached, I could feel the cool mist on my skin, refreshing me after the hot and dusty journey.
We were given the opportunity to swim in the pool below the waterfall, and I eagerly plunged in. The water was cool and invigorating, and I swam and splashed around with my classmates, feeling free and alive.
But what made the experience truly special was the sense of camaraderie and connection that I felt with my classmates. As we laughed and played in the water, I felt a sense of belonging and community that I had never experienced before.
As we made our way back to the bus at the end of the day, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience such a beautiful place with such wonderful people. The memory of our class excursion to Agbokin waterfall will stay with me for a lifetime.
Kano City Wall
My visit to Kano City Wall was a photographer's dream come true. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the majestic beauty of the ancient structure.
I started by exploring the many nooks and crannies of the wall, taking pictures of the intricate details and capturing the different textures of the mud and stone. The sun cast a warm golden light on the wall, giving it an otherworldly glow.
As I moved further along the wall, I encountered locals going about their daily business. I snapped photos of children playing in the shadow of the wall and of merchants selling their wares in the bustling markets nearby.
But what fascinated me the most were the stories that the wall seemed to tell. It was a symbol of the rich history and culture of the people of Kano, and I felt honored to be able to capture a small part of that history through my camera lens.
As the day drew to a close, I sat on the wall and watched the sunset, surrounded by the timeless beauty of Kano City. It was a moment of peace and reflection, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to explore such a special place.
My photography exploration of the Kano City Wall was a reminder of the power of art and culture to connect us to our shared past and to inspire us to create a better future.
Slave Trade Relics In Badagry
The day my best friend took me to Slave Trade Relics in Badagry was a day I will never forget. I had always been interested in history, but this experience took my curiosity to a whole new level.
As we walked through the different relics, my friend told me the stories behind each one. We saw the Point of No Return, where thousands of enslaved Africans were loaded onto ships and taken away from their homeland forever. We also visited the slave market, where human beings were once bought and sold like commodities.
The most poignant moment of the trip was when we visited the Slave Museum. The exhibits included various artifacts, documents, and displays, all telling the heartbreaking story of the transatlantic slave trade. We learned about the brutal conditions on the slave ships, the dehumanizing treatment of the enslaved Africans, and the resistance and resilience of those who fought for their freedom.
Visiting the Slave Trade Relics was a sobering reminder of the atrocities committed in the past, but it also gave me a greater appreciation for the strength and courage of those who endured unimaginable suffering. I left with a newfound respect for the power of history and a desire to learn more about the world around me.
The National Theatre
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting the National Theatre, and I must say, it was an incredible experience. The theatre was located in a prime location in the heart of the city, and the moment I walked in, I was struck by the grandeur and beauty of the place.
The architecture was awe-inspiring, with high ceilings, grand staircases, and intricate designs etched into the walls. As I made my way to my seat, I couldn't help but admire the attention to detail in every corner of the building.
The play that I saw was a classic tragedy, and the actors gave an outstanding performance. The stage design and lighting were also impressive, and it was evident that a lot of thought and effort had gone into bringing the story to life.
During the intermission, I had the chance to explore the theatre a bit more, and I was pleased to see that there were plenty of refreshments and snacks available. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I felt right at home in the cozy atmosphere.
In conclusion, my visit to the National Theatre was an unforgettable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a night of culture and entertainment. Whether you are a theatre enthusiast or just looking for a nice place to spend an evening, the National Theatre is definitely worth a visit.
